Obj. : Congratulations __PRENOM__

Hello __PRENOM__,

So, the collection is over and I wanted to personally congratulate you on your action in favour of the ocean! ✊

By taking part in an Ocean Initiative, you have joined the ranks of those building tomorrow's world.

Your involvement is not just useful, it's essential for protecting our Blue Planet.

You're probably wondering what's the purpose of these collections?

After all, 8 million tonnes of litter end up in the ocean every year.

However many of us get involved, we'll never be able to stop this flow of litter just by picking it up.

That's why, during the collection, we invite organisers to use two essential tools: awareness raising and the quantification of the litter.

Raising awareness aims to make as many people as possible realise how important the issue is. The idea is to get people to gradually change their behaviour so that plastic waste doesn't end up in the oceans.

Quantification, which is optional, involves collecting data to help further research and legislation.

When we prove to governments that hundreds of thousands of plastic bags are found in the environment each year, we can legitimately lobby for a law banning this type of waste.

That's exactly what happened in 2016, with the ban on single-use plastic bags 🚫

So you see: the essence of an Ocean Initiative lies in raising awareness and quantifying litter.

These are the two key actions.

Those which will have a real long-term impact.

So, if you want to take your involvement further, there are 2 things you can do:

👉 Discover the key facts about Marine Litter through the Awareness Raising Fact Sheet

👉 Read the Environmental Reports we compile each year based on the data collected during Ocean Initiatives events

Until next time,

Sofiane
